Halo 2: Anniversary is joining Halo: Reach and Halo: Combat Evolved in Halo: The Master Chief Collection for PC today. If you didn’t buy the full $39.99 Halo: MCC bundle on the Microsoft Store and Steam, the Halo 2 remaster can be purchased separately for just $9.99, though you can also play it for free today with Xbox Game Pass for PC, which costs just $1 for your first month.

Halo 2 is a pretty special episode for Halo fans: It was a true system seller for the original Xbox back in 2004, perfecting the Xbox Live multiplayer experience introduced on Halo: Combat Evolved a year earlier. There were also notable gameplay improvements, including the removal of health kits and the addition of dual-wielding weapons. Additionally, Halo 2 probably still has the longest single player in any Halo game, with several levels replacing Master Chief with a new Covenant Elite called the Arbiter as the playable character.

As a great remaster of the original Xbox game, Halo 2: Anniversary was probably the main reason to purchase Halo: The Master Chief Collection on Xbox One back in 2014. Well, this PC re-release is another opportunity to discover a classic episode from the Bungie era, now with support for keyboard and mouse controls, 4K textures, and more graphics options than on Xbox One.

343 Industries still expect to deliver the rest of Halo: MCC to PC players throughout the year, and the first beta of Halo 3: and the spin-off Halo 3: ODST should be available soon for Halo Insiders. Do you like what 343 Industries has done with these Halo PC ports so far? Let us know in the comments below.
