Great deals continue through the New Year with January’s Xbox Live Games with Gold

It’s that time of the month again – the time where we get to find out what free games are going to be hitting the Xbox One and Xbox 360. January 2016 is one of the more exciting months in recent memory, offering a fairly varied and high-quality selection to those Xbox Live Gold members who are going to be peeking through their free selections this month.

Starting off with Xbox One titles, we have “Zheroes” – a pretty looking, yet stylized, side-scrolling brawler. The title looks to offer some simple fun for those who are just looking to have a good time, and should definitely be checked out if you have the free space on your hard drive.

Next up we have “Killer Instinct.” This classic title got remade in a big way near the launch of the Xbox One a couple of years ago, and it’s since become one of the better options in the modern fighting game stage. The game is currently in season 3 of its run, and continues to add new content as time goes on. It’s an excellent choice for anyone, whether they’re serious about fighting games or are just looking for a good button-mash.

Now for the Xbox 360 titles. Keep in mind – these 360 games are both available to play on Xbox One via backwards compatibility.

First up on the Xbox 360 roster, we have “DiRT Showdown.” This is one of the more unique “racing” games out there, right up there with titles like “Rocket League” (something that’s headed to Xbox One soon!). Where its predecessors focused on actual racing, “DiRT Showdown” is all about demolition derbies. What you see is what you get, with this one – a solid, enjoyable experience based around arcade car-smashing. Can’t go wrong.

Finally, something that should be getting tons of people more than a little excited: “Deus Ex: Human Revolution.” This is one of the greatest RPG’s made in recent history, in the humble opinion of this writer. Offering truly branching paths in its level design that create diverse gameplay, the excellent story is just icing on the cake. With the sequel coming out this summer, now is a great time to play it all over again – or if you haven’t gotten to it, treat yourself by playing it the first time.

In January, we have a fantastic shooter and RPG, a fighter, and two arcade-style games. Honestly, we couldn’t have asked for too much better. Keep an eye out for when these games hit the store next month – you won’t be disappointed.
