In a Q&A session, Google’s VP and head of the company’s enterprise unit, Amit Singh, mentioned that the company’s goal is to take 90% of Office users away from Microsoft and get them to use Google Apps instead. “Our goal is to get to the 90 percent of users who don’t need to have the most advanced features of Office,” Amit Singh stated.

The year 2012 has been good to Google with adoption rates for Google Apps on the rise. “This was the year where we broke the barrier and got large-scale customer adoption,” Singh added. Google plans to grab the 90% of Office users and show them how simple and better Google Apps is compared to Office. “We know the gaps between our features and theirs. We’re improving them week by week. We’re going to get to the the 90 percent,” Singh added.

Google already rivals Amazon’s Web Services and Microsoft Azure with its own infrastructure-as-a-service cloud called Compute Engine. Google also has Drive, which lets Google Apps users store their documents into the cloud, similar to Microsoft’s SkyDrive. Google also has the Chromebox, a PC-like device for businesses. DO you think Google has a chance to whisk away Office users?
