Google has launched a new version of Google Chat, highlighted by the most anticipated feature – the Duet AI.

In an official blog post, the technology giant noted that Duet AI will be employed in Chat as a real-time collaboration ally.

With Duet AI in Chat as a real-time collaboration partner, you can get updates, insights, and proactive suggestions across your Google Workspace apps. We plan for Duet AI to answer complex queries by searching across your messages and files in Gmail and Drive, summarize documents shared in a space, and provide a recap of missed conversations.

Furthermore, the sophisticated AI will be capable of summarizing documents shared in space and recapping missed conversations.

But that’s not all. Other augmentations incorporated in Google Chat encompass plans to dramatically boost the membership limit in its Spaces section. From the existing 50,000 limit, the company aims to reach a staggering 500,000 members.

This enhancement is scheduled to be tested in a private preview version slated for a late 2023 debut.

Aesthetic-wise, Google Chat received a refreshing facelift inspired by Google’s Material 3 aesthetics. Users can expect a refreshed color palette, typography, and visual styling. To streamline its text messaging, an autocorrect feature is introduced for on-the-go corrections.

The tech giant is planning to update its search features. The new features will include suggested queries, autocomplete, did-you-mean suggestions, and AI-based relevance ranking of results.

Moreover, Google is already eyeing further enhancements for Chat, especially its home page design. An early 2024 timeline is set for this forthcoming upgrade that promises an intelligent prioritization of your messages.

In tandem with its Google Chat enhancements, Google launched Duet AI for its business Workspace subscribers. The AI will deliver generative features specifically for businesses. One of these business-focused features includes attending online meetings. Duet AI is programmed to capture notes, action items, and video snippets in real time.

If you need to take notes during a meeting, the “take notes for me” feature can help you compile a summary for all attendees to review. In case someone arrives late, the “summary so far” feature can give them a quick snapshot of what was discussed.

Additionally, Duet AI’s “attend for me” feature can attend meetings on behalf of absent members and deliver messages so they can receive a recap later.

Google has invited businesses to a free trial sign-up to get a flavor of Duet AI. An official pricing structure for Duet AI for Workspace users is yet to be announced.

The technological race amongst Microsoft, Slack, and Google has proven beneficial for customers, who eagerly wait for more innovative features to ease their work processes.
