Google has started rolling out Personal Intelligence to all Gemini users in the U.S., expanding a feature that was earlier limited to paid plans, and this update brings more personalized responses by using data from connected Google apps like Gmail, Google Photos, YouTube, and more.
According to Google, Personal Intelligence “helps you find exactly what you need without having to give all the context,” and the feature now works across AI Mode in Search, the Gemini app, and Gemini in Chrome, making everyday queries more tailored based on your activity and preferences.
What Personal Intelligence Does
Personal Intelligence connects data across your Google apps to deliver responses that feel more relevant and useful, and Google says it can “securely connect the dots” between your emails, purchases, and past searches to improve results.
Here’s how it helps in real situations:
- Custom shopping recommendations
Gemini suggests products based on your past purchases, preferred brands, and even style details like matching accessories. - Tech troubleshooting
You can describe an issue without knowing the exact product model, and Gemini pulls details from receipts to offer precise fixes. - Travel and planning help
It suggests food and places during trips based on your preferences, schedules, and previous activity. - Personalized itineraries
Instead of generic lists, Gemini recommends locations based on your interests and past travel history.
Privacy and Control
Google says Personal Intelligence focuses on “transparency, choice and control,” and users can decide whether to connect apps like Gmail or Google Photos, with the feature turned off by default and easy to manage anytime.
The company also clarifies that Gemini does not train directly on your inbox or photo library, but it uses “limited info, like specific prompts and responses,” to improve performance over time.
Availability and Competition
Personal Intelligence is already live in AI Mode in Search and is now rolling out to free users in the Gemini app and Chrome, though it remains limited to personal Google accounts and not Workspace users.
This move places Gemini closer to Apple’s upcoming Siri upgrade, where Siri will also use personal data like emails and messages to complete tasks, though those features are still delayed and expected later this year.
