Anti-theft is probably one of the coolest new features to Smart Security 6. It basically allows you to set up an account on ESET’s website, which will then associate your device with your ESET account. Once the feature is enabled, you can protect your personal files, locate your misplaced device using a map and your WiFi connection, as well as turn on the device’s webcam to identify the person who stole your device! You can even send a one-way message to your laptop to increase your chance of getting it back, in case it was taken by someone who found it. NOD32 v6 can now scan for threats by starting the scan during a download process, rather than after the download is complete. Using a cloud-powered scanning engine, NOD32 v6 also scans your system while you are idle on your computer, this way maximum resources can be used when you are working. There is also protection against all online and offline threats. The antivirus update packages are also very small, which helps you save internet bandwidth while keeping updated with the latest definitions. NOD32 will even automatically switch over to “silent mode” when the computer enters full screen mode (watching a movie or playing a video game). You can even set an action after a scan to either have the computer enter sleep mode, reboot, or shutdown completely.

I have been running NOD32 v6 64bit on Windows 8 for a few days now and it runs smooth as butter. I’ve tried out both Smart Security 6 and Antivirus 6, and found that both security software are excellent. Smart Security is great for someone who wants more security rather than just an antivirus solution. I’ve already updated a few times and ran a few scans, without slowing down my computer. One of my favorite features is the ability to tell you if you need to run Windows Update or not. NOD32 tells you if you have some updates pending and what they are, with the option to run Windows Update immediately to get those updates installed. The scanning system itself is pretty fast as well and the Anti-Theft feature is very promising. The bottom line? A must-have antivirus security solution for your Windows 8 computer!
