In a rather surprising move, Fortnite’s second chapter of seasons is set to end at the end of the current season, Season 8, instead of Season X like Chapter 1 did.
Confirmation of the Fortnite Chapter 2 finale was found by a number of reliable Fortnite leakers such as Fortnite Intel and YLSDev, who managed to get their hands on a Chapter 2 finale loading screen, and InTheShade who uncovered the end-of-season event playlist.
Curiously, the Season 8 finale event playlist is called The End which is the same title given to the Fortnite Chapter 1 finale event which saw the entire Battle Royale island get sucked into a black hole. That black hole was the only thing visible when loading up Fortnite for several days after the event and, while there were some Easter eggs and a mini-game that could be played, almost all of the main Fortnite content was inaccessible.

When Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 1 started, players were greeted with an entirely new island map to explore, some slightly revamped visuals, and a new swimming mechanic.
So, when does Fortnite Chapter 2 end? Well, Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 8 is set to run until December 5th. We’ve all known this for a while as this date is displayed on the Season 8 Battle Pass screen in-game.
What hasn’t been known is how events will unfold after this end event finishes. However, the date was changed to December, 4.
Fortunately, famous Fortnite leaker, Hypex, has been given the details by their sources and has confirmed that once the Season 8 The End event has ended on December 5th, a black hole will replace most of the game’s content in a similar fashion to what happened at the end of Chapter 1.
Now that "The End" playlist got leaked I can finally talk about this: Chapter 3 is planned to launch on December 7th (It's SOO good btw) and the Blackhole stays during 5th-6th.

This new black hole will remain for the entirety of the 5th and 6th with Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 1 starting on December 7th. Chapter 3 will also see the introduction of a new map.
In regards to the story, all that’s known right now is that the Cube Queen’s corruption will continue to spread over the island in the lead-up to the end of Chapter 2 Season 8. There’ll likely be a massive battle of some kind between the island residents, the secret IO organization, and the cubes but no details have been revealed as of yet.
What about entry’s Season 1? In addition to the new map, all that’s known about the next era is that it’ll introduce a new sliding or dodging mechanic that will allow players to quickly move out of the way and avoid fire from opponents.
Some Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett content has been officially confirmed for the next season while a number of leakers are very confident that there’ll be a Spider-Man collaboration of some kind. This would make sense as Spider-Man: No Way Home comes out in December. The timing would be perfect.

Personally, I think it’s also a safe bet to expect some kind of Matrix Resurrections content in Chapter 3 Season 1 due to that film also coming out next month. That’s purely speculation on my part though.
Fortnite has really been ramping up its collaborations recently with the X-Men, Naruto, and League of Legends content all being added to the game this month alone. Chapter 3 probably won’t be any different.
