Facebook app for Windows Phone 8 receives huge update, better Live tiles, messaging improvements and more

Microsoft’s official Facebook app for Windows Phone 8 has received a huge update today, bringing along all of the new features that were being tested in the Beta app. Facebook for Windows Phone 8 has been bumped to version 5.2.1.0 and is available for download right now.

“Facebook for Windows Phone v5 has been completely overhauled, with faster performance, a new user interface, improved navigation, support for multiple resolutions and tile sizes, and more,” the app description reads. Here are the new features that are part of this update:

  • Faster and more reliable notifications
  • Toasts for Facebook chat
  • Redesigned primary tile
  • Redesigned secondary tiles for chat, events, groups, pages, and photo albums
  • Messaging improvements
  • Performance improvements
  • Support for additional languages

With this new update, you can now see what your friends have posted on your wall right from your Start screen. On top of that, you can pin Facebook chat, events, groups, pages, and photo albums to your Start Screen. “Only on Windows Phone can you see who commented on a photo, what they wrote and which photo they commented on, from you phone’s Start screen Live Tile,” Microsoft explained.

Microsoft has also doubled the number of supported languages to 50. Microsoft hasn’t been updating the main Facebook app for Windows Phone as of late, rather, the company has been rolling out and testing new features in the official Beta version of the app. That all changed today with this new update to the main app.

You can snag it via the download link below. Let us know if you notice any new improvements we did not mention above.
