For the past several years Microsoft has released new Surface devices in October, and this year will be no different. Rumors are pointing toward Microsoft announcing a new 2-in-1 device the Surface Pro 9 alongside the next version of the Surface Laptop, the Surface Laptop 5. WinFuture is reporting that both devices will get a processor spec bump this year to the 12th generation Intel CPU, up from the 11th generation of last year’s model. The Intel Core I5- 1235U is expected to be the entry-level processor for both devices while the Intel Core I7-1255U will be at the higher end. Both devices should be available with up to 1TB of storage and 16GB of ram. Interestingly, there have been no reports of an AMD version of the Surface Laptop 5, leading to speculation that the new Surface Laptop could be Intel only.
In addition to the Intel offerings, Microsoft is expected to announce a Surface Pro 9 based on ARM. The device is expected to be branded the Microsoft SQ3 which is based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 platform. The device is expected to support 5G this time around as well. If the Surface Pro 9 line is being offered in both Intel and ARM processors this could be the end of the Surface Pro X lineup.
According to the report, the Surface Pro 9 will start at €1,300 in Europe and the Surface Laptop 5 at €1,200 for the 13.5-inch version. The Surface Pro 9 tablet is expected to be available in two new colors “Forest” (green) and “Sapphire” (blue).
