Patch Tuesday

As part of this month’s Patch Tuesday, which takes place today, Microsoft is set to roll out eight security updates for various Windows operating systems. Of the eight patches, three are labeled as Critical while four of the patches are labeled as Important. Fire up your Windows Update because its time for Patch Tuesday!

Microsoft will be rolling out a total of three Critical patches dealing with Remote Code Execution. Windows 8 is expected to get four of the updates, one of them being critical and dealing with Remote Code Execution in Internet Explorer 10, while the other three updates are Important and deal with Elevation of Privilege and Denial of Service. Windows RT is expected to receive one Critical update affecting Internet Explorer 10 and two Important updates.

Along with Patch Tuesday, we can expect to see a firmware update for the Surface RT and Surface Pro, which seems to be a common trend with Microsoft. Unfortunately, last month Microsoft didn’t release a firmware update for the Surface Pro, so the device is long overdue for some sort of update addressing the many issues that plague the device and are reported to Microsoft’s Support forums.

August 2013 Patch Tuesday takes place today so head over to Windows Update to check what updates you have. If you have Automatic Updates enabled, you have nothing to worry about!
