Edge development team, Windows client experience team get shuffled in latest Microsoft reorg

Back in March, Microsoft shook up its leadership as part of a major internal reorganization inside the company. The creation of new internal organizations were the fruits of that initial reorg, but it looks as though there’s still some fallout left behind some months after. Indeed, Mary Jo Foley reports that more Microsoft development teams are getting shuffled up as part of a new round of reorganization. There are two major changes going on here, and it is not clear if there will be layoffs as a result.

First of all, there is some internal movement within Edge. Per Foley’s report, Microsoft’s Edge development team is moving back to the Experiences and Devices division, now that Edge is cross-platform. Additionally, the Design team, and the Windows Insiders program are also moving from Windows engineering back to Joe Belfiore’s Windows client experience division.

Secondly, Microsoft Corporate Vice President Kudo Tsunoda will leave his current spot at the newly created NeXT group. He was actually moved to the head of this group in March and as responsible for Microsoft’s Windows Mixed Reality initiatives, including Story Remix, and HoloLens. Tsunoda’s entire team is also apparently being disbanded, and he will be looking for a new role, perhaps within Microsoft.

Foley also reports that Executive Vice President Rajesh Jha (head of the Experiences and Devices) will get oversight of the new teams created under the Azure and Windows engineering organization.

The latest shakeups are definitely interesting and again hint that Microsoft is moving beyond Windows. Let us know in the comments below if you think this reorg is part of a bigger puzzle.
