EA PGA Tour game for Xbox One comes with a new replacement for Tiger Woods

Do you know who Rory Mcllroy is? If you’re an EA PGA Tour game enthusiasts, look to spend the rest of 2015 getting to know him. Rory Mcllroy is a 25 year old Irish born PGA tournament golfer, who just happens to be ranked number one in the world. Rory won his first major, the U.S. Open in 2011, at the ripe old age of 22. Since then, he has won four more majors and has quickly risen to the upper echelon of players like Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods, who have won at least 3 majors by the age of 25.

With age and recent tournaments on his side as well as the painful decline of one of golf’s biggest draws, it seemed like a no brainer for EA to rebrand their PGA Tour game with a fresher face. EA announced today that Rory Mcllroy will be replacing Tiger Woods as the face of the game franchise. The game will now be titled, “EA Sports Rory Mcllroy PGA Tour”, and it’s scheduled to his shelves sometime in June for both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

As art imitates life, Tiger Woods and EA sports had lucrative run from 1998 to 2013 with Woods being the face of a golfing franchise, but that ride is over. In 2014 EA failed to publish a game for the PGA Tour franchise as it cut ties with a then failing Tiger Woods, and in light of that break in partnership the video game developers opted to forego a game in 2014. With Rory ready to chase the mantle, EA is back and they are rumored to be using the Frostbite Engine 3. Using FB3 in theory should lessen the amount of times players have to sit through agonizingly beautiful splash screens of Augusta, Kuala Lumpur, and Pebble Beach etc, in the future.
