The Mobile World Congress (MWC) is set to take place next week, February 24th to be exact. While this event is typically home to new smartphone announcements, a new report from Recode.net suggests that there will be no new Windows Phone smartphones announced during the event.
Set to take place next week in Barcelona, the MWC will showcase the debut of dozens of new Android smartphones, but Windows Phone will be missing out on the party. “Microsoft has a media event planned for Sunday, but it isn’t expected to go into detail on the next version of Windows Phone and is likely to talk only in broad strokes about the future of its phone effort,” the report stated.
We are still expecting to hear about the Nokia X, which runs a forked version of Android, and the Nokia Lumia Icon has already launched on Verizon. Neither Nokia nor Microsoft’s Windows Phone partners are expected to introduce new Windows Phone models during the event.
This is obviously such a big bummer. Last year at the Mobile World Congress, Nokia unveiled the best-selling Nokia Lumia 520 and Nokia Lumia 720, as well as other goodies. Microsoft is set to talk more about Windows Phone 8.1, the next big update for the mobile platform, during the BUILD 2014 Developer Conference in April.
