DirectX 11.1 not coming to Windows 7, Microsoft confirms

Bad news for those gamers who refuse to upgrade from Windows 7, Microsoft recently confirmed that those running on Windows 7 or below won’t be getting DirectX 11.1, and that it will remain as a Windows 8 exclusive.

There are currently no plans on updating Windows 7 to work with DirectX 11.1, claims a Microsoft Employee on the Microsoft Answers forums.

Will this be a big blow to gamers on Windows 7? Maybe, more game developers may begin to favour 11.1 over 11.0, as it does include some new features. The aim of this is probably to get more users to upgrade to the new Windows 8 operating system.
