The Xbox One X is a powerful console, but what do you do if there is no power to feed it? One Redditor found this out the hard way when his Xbox One X suddenly stopped working, and a power cable was the cause of the problem.
To be clear, this is not exactly a widespread issue, but it is still an interesting one, to say the least. The Redditor explains that the console was purchased at midnight, hooked up and played with in the morning, but “spontaneously shut down and would not turn back on” the next day. Obviously distraught, the Redditor tried to fix the problem before sending the system away for repair. This is where a replacement power cable costing a total of $6.99 comes into the picture:
So I decided to at least try to fix it before sending it away. I went to Gamestop and picked up a used universal power cable, the Nyko one that’s branded for Sony consoles (it’s the same style cable the One X uses though). Sure enough, swap the cable out and it powers right up. Tried the original cable one more time just to be sure and it seems to be a fried power cable being the issue as it still did not work but the replacement one does.
Another person in the Reddit thread mentioned having the same issue, so this might as well be just a small problem for now. Either way, it’s a good solution and helps avoid the hassle of sending in the system for repair and having to give up the very special Project Scorpio edition of the Xbox One X.
