December Patch Tuesday updates are now available for Windows 10 versions 20H2 and older

Microsoft has just released new Patch Tuesday updates for all supported versions of Windows 10, including the freshly-released October 2020 Update (version 20H2). Windows 10 users as well as Windows Insiders on the Beta and Release Preview channels can now download the 20H2 Build 19042.685 (KB4592438) which includes various security fixes.

For users still on the older May 2020 update (version 2004), the KB4586853 update is also available in the form of the build 19041.685, which brings the same list of fixes. You can find all the details about the KB4586853 patch below:

  • Addresses a security vulnerability by preventing applications that run as a SYSTEM account from printing to “FILE:” ports. To address this issue in the future, make sure your applications or services run as a specific user or service account.
  • Security updates to Microsoft Edge Legacy, the Microsoft Graphics Component, Windows Media, Windows Fundamentals, and Windows Virtualization.

Microsoft also released the KB4592449 update for Windows 10 versions 1909 and 1903 today, which includes an identical list of fixes. Please note that today also marks the end of servicing for Windows 10 version 1903 for Home and Pro users, and Microsoft has already started to upgrade these users to a newer version of the OS to keep them secure.

The software giant previously announced that it won’t release optional Windows 10 patches later this month due to the holidays, so we won’t get any new Windows 10 updates until next month’s Patch Tuesday. However, we may get a new Windows 10 Insider build for the Dev Channel later this week.
