Creating a Custom Windows Installation DVD or USB Install

Installing Windows can often be a frustrating experience. While the actual installation process for Windows has dramatically improved with Windows Vista and Windows 7, installing the necessary drivers, updates, and apps afterwords is a time consuming process that can easily be simplified.

Lifehacker has created a guide that will walk you through creating a custom Windows image that will include any required updates and drivers and allow for full customization of the Windows 7 or Windows Vista install. The guide utilizes the RT7Lite app. Users interested in creating a customized Windows XP image should follow an older guide that utilizes nLite. Regardless of the version of Windows that you run, spending a bit of time creating your own customized installation disk will payoff with quicker installations that are up-to-date and ready to go.
