If you stick your phone on the dashboard of your car, it’s probably because you are using it to get directions. But a dash mounted phone can be used for much more than this, particularly when an app such as Car Dash is installed. You may already be aware of the app, but in the latest update to version 2.0.0.0, the app formerly known as Car Starter has been rebranded as Car Dash.

The basic idea behind the app is the same as it ever was — to provide easy access to music, phone function, directions and contacts as you travel. As well as the new name, Car Dash has also received a number of design changes and new features.

The dial pad can now be used to make phone calls from within the app — make sure that you’re hands-free if you’re driving! — and a new music selection page makes it easier to navigate through your collection to find a soundtrack for your trip.

As you would expect from an update, there are also big fixes, but there is also a new shortcut to Podcast Lounge.

This is an app that will cost you nothing to test drive, but some in-app addons such as NFC and weather do have costs associated with them
