AutoCAD by Autodesk is a preeminent drafting and 3D modeling tool used by a host of industries, from interior design to architecture to engineering. In its full-blown iteration, AutoCAD is a rather hefty piece of software, requiring some serious PC specs to run at all and even more serious specs to run well. For the more casual user, or someone just needs to view and lightly edit AutoCAD drawings created with the complete package, Autodesk has had a lighter version, AutoCAD 360, for Windows 8.1 in the Windows Store.
While this version was functional, it wasn’t a full-on Universal Windows 10 App. Today, that’s changing as a new version has been published that earns the “Built for Windows 10” designation.
Here’s what the app can do:
• Draw and edit shapes with accuracy using object snap
• Select, move, rotate, and scale objects
• Use multi-touch zoom and pan to easily navigate large drawing
• Add and edit text annotations directly on your drawing; no need for paper mark-ups
• Measure accurately using the distance measurement tool while on site
• Keep drawings up to date by saving edits as you go
• Work offline and sync your changes once back online
• Share your designs with others directly from mobile
• View drawings from a multitude of cloud storage services (Google Drive, OneDrive, Buzzsaw, Dropbox, and more)
• Use the free companion web app to easily access drawings from web browsers
Here’s what’s new in this version of AutoCAD 360:
• AutoCAD 360 is now a Universal App on Windows platform
• Completely revamped UI for UWP
• Improvements in canvas performance
• Bug fixes and stability improvements
If you’re in the need for a lighter AutoCAD viewer and editor, then AutoCAD 360 might be just the ticket. And now, you can enjoy it on your Windows 10 PC, tablet, and smartphone.
