Asus Reportedly Considering Acquiring The Taiwan-based HTC – onmsft.com

Asus reportedly considering acquiring the Taiwan-based HTC

HTC is having a difficult time in keeping up with the competition and is struggling with its flagship devices, and took a beating in the markets this week after warning that another massively poor earnings statement was on the way. During Asus’s annual general meeting, a statement by the company’s Chairman Johnny Shih hinted at some interested in acquiring its fellow Taiwanese company.

The company’s Chief Financial Officer David Chang the following statement to Reuters (via ZDNet):

“Our chairman has chatted about the topic internally,Still, the chances of an actual takeover are not big as Asustek is a company that has depended on organic growth.”

We’ve seen several rumors in the past hinting at the possible acquisition of the Taiwan-based company from other big players in the technology industry. However, none of those rumors panned out as reported. HTC has reported declining revenues over the past few months and if things continue as they are, HTC may end up being a part of another big technology giant.

HTC has a decent product portfolio, but it appears the company doesn’t have the resources to compete against the likes of Samsung in terms of marketing and advertising. Let’s see what happens, we’ll update you as soon as we get anymore information about the alleged acquisition.
