Apple preparing for two new iPhones?

According to reports, Apple might be beginning production of the iPhone 5 this September for an October release while the iPhone 6 might make its debut early 2012.

As AppleInsider reports, Apple’s iPhone 5 will feature “slight modifications” compared to the iPhone 4. We will get to see the inclusion of an 8 megapixel rear camera and a Qualcomm baseband for both GSM and CDMA models. Reports indicate that the iPhone will hit release around October of this year.

Reports also indicate that Apple plans on releasing a newer version of the iPhone, dubbed the iPhone 6, which features a new design and greatly improved hardware specifications. This is obviously to compete with Google’s Android platform and Microsoft’s Windows OS platform. The iPhone 6 is said to go on sale around the first half of 2012.

One of the “main selling point” of the iPhone 5 might possibly be the new iOS 5 mobile operating system.

When it comes to the iPod Touch, we might not see a new fifth-generation version of the device this September. The earthquake and tsunami disaster in Japan have reportedly resulted in constrained supplies for Apple. This means that Apple will instead focus components towards the iPhone 5 rather than the iPod.

Keep in mind that these reports are merely speculation yet very credible. We will have to wait and see in the coming months as more details come out. What do you guys think? Is it too soon for the iPhone 6 or is it something Apple needs right away to compete with Google and Microsoft?
