This app demonstrates Windows Phone 8.1's OTG feature

We heard that the Windows Phone 8.1 operating system will let you attach USB thumb drives and transfer data across devices — popularly known as USB On-The-Go (OTG) functionality. However, that feature couldn’t be verified, as even the Lumia 630 with the Cyan update, and Lumia 520 with Windows Phone 8.1 Dev Preview, were unable to detect our pen drives. However, an app has surfaced in the Windows Phone Store which suggests the existence of OTG on the new operating system.

Acquired by Pudince, Ninko is a firm that develops hardware and software that it claims will help boost your productivity. It recently published an app on Windows Phone Store that lets you connect your USB thumbstick to a Windows Phone using the data cable.

Now, we tried to plug in a few USB drives, however, none seemed to work. But that’s normal, we suppose, as the app specifically demands you to download the drivers — which perhaps is device specific (as most are). With the application, you also get a file manager, using which you can even browse the SD Card, but we believe that you will have to use the built-in driver to access the files from a Ninko USB storage device.

The app description says that it supports a vast majority of popular file formats. Let us know if anyone of you uses a pen drive from the said company and was able to get it to work with the Ninko app.
