AMD’s Ryzen AI 400 series has started to appear in early testing, and the first results raise concerns about how the company names its mobile chips, especially when performance does not match expectations for higher-tier branding. Buyers have not seen many retail laptops yet, but early benchmarks already show that the Ryzen AI 7 445 does not clearly outperform older parts in the lineup.
Notebookcheck reports that the Ryzen AI 7 445, tested inside the Lenovo Yoga 7 2-in-1 16, performs close to the older Ryzen AI 5 340, which makes it hard to justify its higher position in AMD’s naming structure. The aggregate CPU score for the 445 stands at 61.2 points, slightly ahead of Intel’s Core Ultra 7 256V at 60.7, but still below the Ryzen AI 5 340, which scored 63.7 in a different Yoga model.
CPU and GPU performance do not scale

Performance data shows that the Ryzen AI 7 445 does not bring a clear upgrade, as Cinebench R15 multi-loop results reach 1638 points, while competing Intel systems sit at 1433, yet the older Ryzen AI 5 340 still maintains a strong position in overall comparisons. Graphics performance also fails to improve, since the Radeon 840M GPU scores 19.3 points in 3DMark, which falls behind the 22-point result of the Ryzen AI 5 340 and stays far below Intel Arc 140V systems at around 41 points.
Specs reveal the reason
The specification breakdown explains the gap, as AMD shifts core composition instead of increasing raw performance, which results in fewer full Zen 5 cores and more efficiency-focused Zen 5c cores in the newer chip.
| Specification | Ryzen AI 7 445 | Ryzen AI 5 340 |
|---|---|---|
| CPU cores / threads | 6 / 12 | 6 / 12 |
| Core layout | 2x Zen 5 + 4x Zen 5c | 3x Zen 5 + 3x Zen 5c |
| Max boost clock | Up to 4.6 GHz | Up to 4.8 GHz |
| L3 cache | 8 MB | 16 MB |
| iGPU | Radeon 840M | Radeon 840M |
| GPU score | 19.3 | 22 |
| CPU score | 61.2 | 63.7 |
This early comparison shows that naming alone does not reflect performance, and buyers need to check specifications and benchmarks before choosing between Ryzen AI 400 series laptops, especially when older chips still deliver stronger results in key areas.
