Daedalic Entertainment has announced that they’re working on a new video game based on the popular The Lord of the Rings franchise set for release in 2021.

The game will be called The Lord of the Rings: Gollum and, as its name implies, will focus on the character of Gollum and will be set before the events of the main The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

“We have the story that we all know from the book, but everything that happens to him before he appears in the book are the main things we will see in our game. We will tell the story before he first appears in the books,” Daedalic’s Fichtelmann said in an interview with the HR.

Little is known about the upcoming title’s gameplay but it is hinted that decision-making will be involved in some capacity.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is confirmed for release on PC and “all relevant console platforms at that time” which will likely include the Xbox Series X consoles, which launches later this year.

While video games set in Middle-Earth are generally hard to come by, fans of the fantasy world may want toc heck out the new digital card game which launched on Xbox One in late-2019.
