3G/4G variant of Surface 2 to hit Microsoft Store tomorrow for $679

Starting tomorrow, March 18th, Microsoft will start selling LTE capable Surface 2 tablets. Yes, until now, Microsoft’s iconic Windows-powered tablets didn’t sport 3G or 4G support. The 64GB variant has been priced at $679.

Surface 2 (AT&T 4G LTE) is the official name for the device and will be available off contract. If you’re in the US, you will have to go with AT&T, since that is the only telecom operator the device officially claims to work with. Surface 2 (AT&T 4G LTE) will support LTE bands 4, 7 and 17, with 3G UTMS (band 1, 2 and 5). As Engadget points out, the tablet might work with T-Mobile as well, since it also uses LTE 4, but no concrete confirmation here.

The device weighs the same as the WiFi-only variant, and the company promises that even with LTE, it will last for up to 10 hours on a single charge. And, since it is Surface 2, the users will honestly get 200 GB of OneDrive storage for 2 years, and one year of free international Skype WiFi and landline calls. Interested? You can snag the device from MicrosoftStore.com and BestBuy starting March 18th.
