343 changes direction on adding premium currency to Halo MCC – onmsft.com

343 Industries has announced it will no longer be adding the ability to purchase Spartan Points to Halo: The Master Chief Collection.  343 had discussed the idea in June of this year to add premium Spartan Points to unlock items within the game.  The idea was given to help casual players who hop into the game on occasion a way to sort through the thousands of items that have been added through the years.  Spartan points would have provided a shortcut for those that didn’t want to grind through the game.

Halo fans were not pleased with the idea of purchasing Spartan Points which lead to canceling the idea. However, 343 did confirm they are looking into other ways for new players to get through the game barriers more quickly.  Some things discussed so far have been increasing rewards for completing of certain challenges and bringing back Double XP Weekends.

It’s also being discussed how to increase the earn rate of Spartan Points. The 100-point cap is being removed, retroactive points will be granted, and we will be making further adjustments to Challenges to make them more rewarding.
