It’s now time to take a look at the top, best, and most popular Windows 8 and Windows RT apps available in the Windows Store. We will go over some stats for the Windows Store, including the top five paid apps and top five free apps. This is yet another post in our weekly feature called “Windows Store Sunday” where we highlight what’s going on with the Windows Store.

As of August 4th, there are 111,053 in the Windows Store, an increase of 1,114 apps in just one week. Compared to last week, the top-five free apps has seen some minor shuffling around but retains pretty much the same apps on the list. Skype is back to being the top free app in the Windows Store, along with Facebook Now and Google Search apps. Crackle, which was the top app last week, is now in fifth place. In the top-five paid list, the recently released Halo Spartan Assault is still in the top-five paid apps list in the Windows Store, which should come as no surprise to anyone. Rayman Jungle Run is still on the top-five list, along with Fruit Ninja and Angry Birds Star Wars. Bejeweled LIVE has also made its return to the list. For those of you who use either the Yahoo Mail app or Netflix app, an update was released for both apps in the Windows Store this week. Both apps have been updated with performance enhancements and bug fixes. Twitter, AccuWeather, and Adobe Reader Touch apps also received updates this week adding features and addressing bugs.

Also this week, VideoLAN President and developer Jean-Baptiste Kempf posted up a new blog post and has provided us an update on the progress of VLC for Windows RT. According to Kempf, there has been good progress and a release is coming soon.
