107,707 total apps in the Windows Store and the best/top Windows 8 apps as of July 21st

Windows Store

It’s now time to take a look at the top, best, and most popular Windows 8 and Windows RT apps available in the Windows Store. We will go over some stats for the Windows Store as well as highlight one app for your downloading pleasure. This is yet another post in our weekly feature called “Windows Store Sunday” where we highlight what’s going on with the Windows Store.

As of July 21st, there are 107,707 in the Windows Store, an increase of 2,790 apps in just one week. Compared to last week, the top-five free apps has seen some changes. Facebook Now is still the top free app, but now we see Instagram Now and YouTube Now claim the second and third spot. It’s pretty cool to see the same developer take the first, second, and third spot in the top-free category of the Windows Store this week. Pac Pac Man returns to the top-five free list and we also see Zombie HQ increasing in popularity.

The top five free apps in the United States based on popularity are:

  • Facebook Now
  • Instagram Now
  • YouTube Now
  • Pac Pac Man
  • Zombie HQ

In the top-five paid list, Angry Birds Star Wars is no longer the top app, as a new app called Facebook! has taken the lead. This Facebook! app has mixed ratings but claims to offer a beautiful interface to do all things Facebook. Two new apps have made the top-paid list, including Chimpact and Pylon. Angry Birds Star Wars and Angry Birds Space remains on the top-five paid list. Here are the top five paid apps currently in the Windows Store:

  • Angry Birds Star Wars
  • Angry Birds Space
  • Pylon

Rovio, the makers of the popular Angry Birds, Angry Birds Space, and Angry Birds Star Wars games, have announced this week that a new game was in the works and would be released on September 19th across all platforms. Angry Birds Star Wars II will be released on Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8.

This week, eBay rolled out an updated version of its eBay app for Windows 8 and Windows RT. In the update, you can now create, edit, and finish listings within the app to sell your item. The updated app also comes with several other new features and bug fixes.

MetroTwit for Windows 8

For this weeks app highlight, we will go over MetroTwit. This app was recently updated and features a brand new interface, along with some cool new features. This app is quite popular and has already received over 1500 reviews. If you are looking for a Metro/Modern style Twitter account to compliment your Windows 8 or Windows RT device, this is the app for you.
