Microsoft “rushing to release” Windows 10 patch to address VPN internet connectivity errors with Office 365, Teams » onmsft.com

If you’re depending on a Virtual Private Network (VPN) on Windows 10 and are having issues connecting to Microsoft Teams and other Office 365 services, you’re not alone. According to a report from ZDNet, Microsoft is currently “rushing to release” a Windows 10 patch which will help address some internet connectivity errors in the operating system.

The issue with VPNs and Office 365 apps was originally caused by last month’s KB4535996 February Cumulative update for Windows 10. The problem is well known, as it was noted in the changelogs, that “devices using a virtual private network (VPN), might show limited or no internet connection status in the Network Connectivity Status Indicator (NCSI) in the notification area.”  All the major versions of Windows, including version 1909, version 1903 and version 1809 were impacted.

This is likely a huge pain for those working on company devices from home due to the Coronavirus outbreak, and as a result, Microsoft has further officially acknowledged it. The company posted that they are working on an out-of-band update to help resolve the issue by early April.

The update to correct the issue will only be downloadable through the Microsoft Update Catalog.  In the meantime, as a workaround, Microsoft recommends for you to mitigate any VPN bugs by restarting your device.
