Despite the rapid growth in mobile gaming markets in Asia, developers are not able to generate much revenue out of it. Carrier billing has yet to be adopted in most locations, and credit card’s poor penetration have left developers with very little hope to make any money. Fortunately, Fortumo, an international mobile payment provider, has offered a helping hand to Windows Phone developers.
Forumo has announced a new developer program for Windows Phone and Windows 8 developers under which it offers every developer $5,000 free advertising credits if they add Fortumo’s in-app purchasing SDK to their apps. Though it does require you to make at least $2,000 per month on the platform.
The company sees great future in Windows Phone, and believes with better advertising and promotion, developers will be able to reach out to more users. “The biggest revenue opportunity for Windows phone developers comes from countries like India, Turkey, Brazil and Poland where Windows phone has a strong, growing market share. These are also the markets where mobile payments beat credit cards when it comes to in-app transactions. Combining carrier billing with improved app discovery can significantly increase developer income from Windows phone,” said Martin Koppel, COO of Fortumo.
In many countries like India, carrier billing — an option to pay for apps, in-app purchases and other digital content through monthly mobile billing — is still not an option. And traditionally operators have been demanding 50% cut on all revenue generated. Earlier this year, Microsoft was in talks with several Indian telecom operators to introduce this feature on their networks, but so far we haven’t seen any development in that space.
