Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit (EMET) has been updated to version 4.1. This security tool takes a slightly different approach to others and helps to protect against a variety of threats. The aim is to anticipate attacks and other security issues so they can be stopped before they become a problem.

Because of the way the toolkit works, it offers a good level of protection against 0-day vulnerabilities. Version 4.0 of the Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit was release back in June, and this 4.1 update includes a number of important additions and changes.

As Microsoft says, EMET is an easily extended security solution: “The mitigations are also designed so that they can be easily updated as attackers start using new exploit techniques.”

Changes have been made to the default protection profiles, Certificate Trust rules, and Group Policy Object configuration for added security, and shared remote desktop environments are now supported. There is better Windows Event logging, improvements have been made to application compatibility, and steps have been taken to reduce instances of false positives.
