The subject of NFTs (Non fungible tokens) in video games is a controversial one, with many gamers being decidedly against it. One place you won’t have to worry about finding them is in Minecraft, apparently.
In a statement on the official Minecraft site’s blog, developer Mojang Studios made clear where it stood on NFTs and the blockchain, saying “NFTs with Minecraft are generally not something we will support or allow.” It also added that it was in the process of updating the Minecraft usage guidelines to reflect this.
On its decision to firmly say no to NFTs Mojang added that blockchain technologies “can create models of scarcity and exclusion that conflict with our Guidelines and the spirit of Minecraft.” By which they mean they want Minecraft to remain an inclusive experience where everyone has access to the same content.
The blog post also cited the fact that some third-party NFTs can be unreliable, and expressed a desire to keep Minecraft players safe in the game, particularly younger ones.
