Fans of Death Stranding are no doubt riding high right now, with a sequel to the 2019 “strand” game announced just last week at the 2022 Game Awards, along with a world-premiere trailer for the upcoming game (which is currently available on PC Game Pass).
And they will soon be riding even higher, for a film adaption of Death Stranding has just been announced, as reported by Deadline. The film will be produced by a partnership between Kojima Productions and film producer Alex Lebovici’s Hammerstone Studios. The latter will provide the financing for the project, with Kojima Productions US and Allan Ungar (The Sound, Bandit) executive producing.
Of the partnership Kojima said,
“I couldn’t be more excited about this new partnership with Hammerstone Studios. This is a pivotal moment for the franchise and I’m really looking forward to collaborating with them in bringing DEATH STRANDING to the big screen.”
At this time there are no further details about the film or when we can expect to see it. While the game features an all-star cast with Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, Margaret Qualley, Léa Seydoux and Guillermo del Toro, it is unclear whether these actors will reprise their roles for the film. One thing is clear, however: Hideo Kojima fans have rarely had it so good as they do right now.
