Microsoft sent out invites to journalists and media moments ago to an event scheduled for September 21, 2023, in New York City, and while there are no specific details about the event itself, many believe it’s an unveiling of new Surface devices for the year.
Microsoft often holds an event displaying its Surface hardware during the months of September or October such as its Surface Event in October of 2019, September 2020, September 2021, and October 2022.
Microsoft could be gearing up for an event where it will show off some of the artificially infused aspects of the next version of Windows the company has hinted at in recent weeks, but the overwhelming opinion is that it will unveil the work its done to update its Surface Laptop Studio 2, Surface Laptop Go 3, Surface Go 4, Surface Laptop 6, and possibly more.
Rumors are pointing towards a beefier spec’d version of the Surface Laptop Studio arriving with 13th Gen Intel H-Series chips alongside and NVIDIA 40 series GPU. Microsoft is also rumored to be eschewing the base i5 models for more powerful i7 with larger storage and memory capacities which will lead to a bump in price this year.
Other upgrades on docket include a speedier entry-level Intel N200 chip for the entry-level Surface Go, another exclusionary year for AMD inside of the Surface Laptop and Intel-based Surface devices gaining similar AI-powered Windows enhancements the Surface Pro 9 on ARM received last year.
Microsoft is also rumored to be taking a year off from Surface Duo development and with the recent radio silence on those efforts as well as the mass layoffs and restricting in that division, most aren’t expecting much in the way of updates or info on the company’s smartphone efforts in 2023.
Journalists, media, and fans have a little over a month to speculate over what Microsoft plans to talk about, regardless September is shaping up to be a newsworthy month for the company.
