Discord isn’t being left behind, making an announcement earlier today highlighting its plan to further integrate AI into its platform. The company intends to leverage OpenAI’s ChatGPT technology to enhance its Clyde bot capabilities.
The press release touched on multiple key areas. First up, Discord’s Clyde bot is getting a major update. While it can already respond to slash commands and send you a DM in case you made an error. The incorporation of AI technology into the bot will further expand its capabilities.
According to Discord, Clyde will feature ChatGPT-like features. Using OpenAI’s technology, the bot will answer questions as well as have extended conversations with other users on the platform. What’s more, it will be able to recommend playlists and even create new threads in channels.
Additionally, Discord is also debuting Conversation Summaries. The neat feature bundles up streams of messages into topics, thus allowing users to easily catch up on their areas of interest. Thanks to this new addition, you’ll see a new panel on the right side of the screen that highlights these topics.
Discord has indicated that it will be rolling out the feature to limited servers beginning next week, you can therefore enable it via Server Settings.
The platforms’ AutoMod moderation tool is also getting a significant update. By leveraging OpenAI’s technology, the tool will now be able to send out alerts to moderators whenever server rules may have been broken while simultaneously highlighting the context of the conversation.
According to Discord:
AutoMod has automatically blocked more than 45 million unwanted messages from servers before they even had a chance to be posted based on server rules.
Alongside these key enhancements across the platform, Discord has also launched an AI incubator and dedicated resources for developers that want to build AI on Discord. What’s more, Discord is also open-sourcing Avatar Remix. The app lets you remix other users’ avatars via generative image models. The app is already available on GitHub for developers to fork, remix, and extend.
In the past few months, we’ve seen more companies start to warm up to AI technology. The most notable one’s being Microsoft’s Bing Chat feature which hit 100 million daily active users. We are likely to see this trend pick up even more in the next couple of months.
