Ever since the emergence of mainstream conversational AI through ChatGPT, Google has expressed a keen interest in owning a significant stake in the sector. The arrival of Bard has only served to increase their involvement as the platform continues to experience exponential growth. While Bard has produced responses deemed impractical by its OpenAI-led opposition, particularly regarding basic arithmetic and logical reasoning questions, Google has been working on a separate language model, and the company has now integrated it with Bard to enhance its logic capabilities and pave the way for possible autonomous code generation in the future.
Bard is built on Google’s Language Model for Dialogue Application (LaMDA) which excels at holding conversations rather than functioning as a logical reference tool. Google unveiled its long-term vision for a new Pathways model in 2021 and introduced the Pathways Language Model (PaLM) in 2022, a 540-billion-parameter language model trained using Pathways. Presently, Google is integrating PaLM with Bard.
Google employee, Jack Krawczyk, announced the addition of PaLM in a tweet that it would enhance Bard’s capability to tackle multi-step word and math problems. Furthermore, Krawczyk revealed that code generation capability is imminent for Bard. It is worth noting that ChatGPT has code completion capabilities.

Bard vs Bing Chat, the AI showdown
Although Bard faces stiff competition from Bing Chat, the latter continues to enhance its user experience through constant additions and improvements. Often, these updates go unannounced until they are rolled out to all chatbot users. Recently, one such enhancement was previewed by Mikhail Parakhin, Microsoft’s head of Advertising and Web Services, in a tweet.
As we have already reported, Parakhin revealed Bing Chat is testing a new and improved format for displaying mathematical solutions being tested by a small number of users. He further added that the feature should soon be available for all users.
