It's now time to take a look at the top, best, and most popular Windows 8 and Windows RT apps available in the Windows Store. We will go over some stats for the Windows Store, including the top five paid apps and top five free apps. This is yet another post in our weekly feature called "Windows Store Sunday" where we highlight what's going on with the Windows Store.
As of September 1st, there are 114,720 in the Windows Store, an increase of 1216 apps in just one week. Compared to last week, the top-five free apps has seen some minor shuffling around but the same apps remain on the list compared to the previous week. This week, Skype returns to the top of the list. In the top-five paid list, the recently released Halo Spartan Assault has been knocked off the top five paid list for a fourth week in a row. For those of you who use Shazam to identify and discover music, there is an official Shazam app for Windows 8 and Windows RT. A new update was just rolled out this week adding some UI improvements and several bug fixes. The Yahoo Mail app for Windows 8 and Windows RT has been updated this week as well. For those of you who utilize the Yahoo email service and own a Windows 8 or Windows RT device, this app is the perfect companion.
Microsoft rolled out an update to the company's Bing News and Bing Travel apps for both Windows 8 and Windows RT this week. Just recently, Microsoft rolled out updates for the Bing Weather, Bing Sports, and Bing Finance apps.
Microsoft revealed this past Wednesday that the brand new Foursquare app for Windows 8 would be immediately available in the Windows Store. Not only is this app finally available, but it is exclusive to Windows 8 and is the first official app for large-screen devices.
