Phone and tablet storage has been a hot topic for awhile now, and Seagate thinks they have the solution to that problem. With traditional PCs local storage could be expanded by plugging in an external hard drive, but with mobile devices external hard drives don’t work. Seagate has created a device which makes external storage easy and practical for mobile devices, called Seagate Wireless.
This device is a portable hard drive which emits a WiFi signal which is used to transfer content between the drive and devices. Connecting to the device is secured through an app which is available for iOS, Android, and Windows 8, and since the content is transferred directly via WiFi users have access to their content even without internet access. Users can offload their media from their device onto their wireless storage to free up much needed space. This can be a serious issue for phones like the iPhone, or some Lumias which don’t have expandable storage.
Seagate Wireless will be available from Amazon, Best Buy and Seagate.com by early February for a MSRP of $129.99.
