CES 2015: Toshiba announces Encore 2 Windows tablet lineup, touts affordable price and long battery life

Computer manufacturer Toshiba has unveiled two new Windows tablets at the ongoing trade show CES 2015 event in Las Vegas. Called the Toshiba Encore 2 Write, the tablets come in two screen sizes: 8-inch and 10.1-inch with 720P display and runs on Windows 8.1. The company is touting the tablets’ affordable price tag, and digitizer pens with Waco TruFeel tech, which allows one to interact with the tablets.

Both the tablets are powered by the Intel Atom processor with 2GB of RAM, and 64GB internal storage, which are expandable should you need more. On the connectivity front, the tablets support 802.11n dual band Wi-Fi, and comes with a micro USB port and a micro HDMI port. The company promises 11 hours of battery life with both the tablets. There’s also an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 1.2-megapixel front facing camera, for those of you who don’t mind carrying a tablet to take a picture.

Coming to the digital pen, the company is calling it TruPen, and according to them, it supports more than 2,000 levels of pressure sensitivity. The TruPen works in conjunction with TruNote app, which lets users create notes, artworks as well as highlight text and make searches. The pen also understands gesture and hover actions.

The 8-inch version costs $349.99, while the 10-inch model is priced at $399.99. Both the tablets will become available for sale starting January 11. You also get one year free subscription of Office 365 with the tablets.
