OpenAI looks close to announcing GPT-5.5 after sharing a cryptic post on X that hints at its next ChatGPT upgrade, and the teaser has already sparked discussion among users trying to decode its meaning.
Razvan Girgiz explained that the text “NS41” works as a Base64-encoded string, and when decoded, it points directly to “5.5,” which aligns with expectations around the next model version.
Another user, Nic, broke it down differently by assigning numbers to letters, where N equals 14 and S equals 19, then subtracting 14 from 19 to get 5 and combining 4 plus 1 to reach another 5, which again signals 5.5.
The teaser suggests OpenAI plans to reveal GPT-5.5 soon, especially as the company continues rolling out rapid updates across its products, including improvements to Codex for Mac with expanded computer use features and the release of ChatGPT Images 2 that delivers stronger image generation results.
These updates show a clear push toward more capable tools, and GPT-5.5 now looks set to follow as the next major step.
