CD Projekt RED is giving Cyberpunk 2077 another major visual upgrade on PS5 Pro, and this free update puts a clear focus on sharper 4K visuals, stronger ray tracing, and faster performance options for players who want a smoother ride through Night City. The update arrives on April 8, 2026, and it adds three display modes that let PS5 Pro users choose between maximum visual quality, a more balanced setup, or the highest frame rates the console can push.
In a new PlayStation Blog post, CD Projekt RED explained that the studio built this update around the PS5 Pro’s extra power, while also making sure players get more control over how the game looks and feels. That means better lighting, stronger reflections, upgraded shadows, and support for PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, which helps the game deliver cleaner image quality across the city’s crowded streets, glowing signs, and fast-moving action.
“We wanted to make the most of the PS5 Pro’s cutting-edge technology by bringing 4K visuals, powered-up performance, advanced ray tracing, and more to the Cyberpunk 2077 experience.”

PS5 Pro update additions
The biggest change here is the addition of three separate graphics modes for PS5 Pro owners, and each one targets a different kind of player depending on whether they value visuals, balance, or speed. Ray Tracing Pro pushes image quality the hardest, turning on ray-traced reflections, ambient occlusion, skylight, shadows, and emissive lighting, while targeting 40 FPS on VRR displays or 30 FPS on screens without VRR.
Ray Tracing mode sits in the middle and aims for a smoother 60 FPS with select ray tracing enhancements still enabled, while Performance mode focuses on fluid gameplay and reaches up to 90 FPS on VRR-supported displays while keeping image quality high.
CD Projekt RED also confirmed that it implemented BVH8 support for improved ray-traced lighting, shadows, and reflections, which should make Night City’s already striking visual style look even richer on Sony’s upgraded console. That matters in a game like Cyberpunk 2077, where lighting does a lot of the heavy lifting, especially when sunlight bounces off vehicles or neon spills across wet streets at night.
This update gives Cyberpunk 2077 players more reasons to revisit the game, especially since the studio has already confirmed that it will not release any new DLC or expansions for it. So while fans wait for the Cyberpunk sequel and more news on The Witcher 4, this PS5 Pro patch gives Night City one more big technical lift, and the phrase “make Night City shine as brightly as possible” feels like the right summary for what CD Projekt RED wants to do here. For PS5 Pro owners, this looks like the most advanced console version of Cyberpunk 2077 yet.
