Samsung is planning a major change to its flagship lineup with the Galaxy S27 series, as the company looks set to introduce a fourth model alongside the regular, Plus, and Ultra variants, and this new device is expected to be called the Galaxy S27 Pro, bringing high-end features to a broader audience while expanding overall consumer choice.
ETNews reports that Samsung’s Mobile Experience division has already decided to move forward with a four-model structure for the Galaxy S27 series, marking the first major lineup expansion in years and showing a clear shift in strategy as the company aims to strengthen its position in the premium smartphone market.
The Galaxy S27 Pro is expected to sit between the Plus and Ultra models, and Samsung plans to equip it with several premium features that were previously limited to the Ultra variant, including the Privacy Display technology that first appeared on the Galaxy S26 Ultra and received strong user response.
At the same time, Samsung will keep the S Pen exclusive to the Ultra model, which allows the company to use internal space more efficiently in the Pro variant, and this change gives Samsung room to increase battery capacity, an area where the company has faced criticism as competitors continue to push larger batteries in their flagship devices.
Samsung aims to match Apple’s lineup strategy
Samsung’s move to expand its flagship lineup also aligns with a broader industry trend, where companies offer multiple high-end options to target different segments, and this approach closely mirrors Apple’s recent strategy of offering four iPhone models across price tiers and feature sets.
ETNews also notes that Samsung plans to apply the Privacy Display feature to more than one model in the upcoming lineup, which suggests that the Galaxy S27 Pro will play a key role in delivering premium features without pushing buyers all the way to the Ultra variant.
The company is also expected to increase its use of the Exynos 2700 chipset to around 50 percent of the lineup, while the remaining models will use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, helping Samsung manage costs while maintaining performance across regions.
Samsung has not finalized the full specifications for the Galaxy S27 series yet, and plans can still change before launch, but the addition of a Pro model signals a clear push to refine its flagship strategy and respond to growing competition in the premium smartphone market.
