Eidos Montreal has confirmed another round of layoffs, cutting 124 developers as the studio reshapes its internal teams to match changing project demands, while long-time head of studio David Anfossi has also left the company after more than a decade in leadership.
The studio shared the update in a public statement, where it pointed to shifting priorities across production and support teams as the main reason behind the cuts, adding that this move aims to “adapt and concentrate efforts” where the studio can deliver the most impact.
“Today is a difficult day for our studio and reflects the need to adapt and concentrate efforts where Eidos Montreal can be most effective. We are deeply grateful to the team members impacted; this decision is not a reflection of their talent, dedication, or performance. Supporting those impacted with care and respect remains our priority, while ensuring continuity for the teams moving forward.”

The company also confirmed that David Anfossi is stepping down, closing a long chapter that included work on Deus Ex: Human Revolution and more than ten years as studio head, while Eidos noted that “a transition plan is underway” as it prepares to name new leadership.
Ongoing Project Struggles
This latest round of layoffs follows a difficult stretch for the studio, which saw a Legacy of Kain project cancelled in late 2025 alongside earlier job cuts, though it remains unclear whether those layoffs connect directly to this new reduction.
The studio’s last major release as a lead developer was Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy in 2021, after which it shifted to support roles such as work on Fable, and when that support contract ended, Eidos again reduced staff in March last year.
Earlier setbacks also include a cancelled Deus Ex project under Embracer Group in 2024, and later attempts to pitch a new version that reportedly failed because publishers viewed the franchise as “too niche.”
For now, reports suggest the studio is working on a new open-world action-adventure game led by the Shadow of the Tomb Raider team, though Eidos has not officially confirmed its next release.
