PUBG: Blindspot has already shut down, with publisher Krafton pulling the free to play 5v5 tactical shooter from Steam only two months after its early access release, which brings a sudden end to a spin off that aimed to expand the PUBG universe beyond battle royale.
Krafton confirmed the shutdown through a statement posted on the game’s Steam page, where the developers explained that they could not deliver the experience they originally planned, even after exploring different ways to improve the game during its short early access run.
Sequoia Yang from ARC Team shared the update and addressed players directly:
“Since our last update, the team has been exploring multiple ways to improve the experience and move the game forward. However, after careful consideration, we have come to the conclusion that we are no longer able to substantially provide the level of experience we set out to deliver through Early Access. We place player experience at the center of every decision we make, and it is based on that principle that we have made this decision.”
The studio confirmed that the early access service ended on March 30, giving players only a short window to return before servers went offline.
Blindspot struggled to build momentum after launch, even though it initially reached a peak of 3,251 concurrent players on Steam, as engagement dropped quickly and the game failed to cross 1,000 concurrent players through most of March.
This drop in player activity shows why Krafton described the experience as falling short of expectations, especially when the company had planned for Blindspot to support growth alongside other PUBG projects.
What Comes Next for PUBG Spin Offs
Krafton still has PUBG: Black Budget in development, which focuses on the extraction shooter genre that continues to gain attention, with games like ARC Raiders and Marathon pushing the category forward.
The company recently reported record revenue of $2.05 billion, driven largely by the PUBG franchise, yet Blindspot’s shutdown makes it clear that not every spin off can maintain player interest, even when backed by a strong brand.
Krafton has also started shifting toward an AI focused strategy, which adds another layer to how it plans future projects after Blindspot’s early exit.
