Build developer conference registration sells out, but no hardware giveaways

Microsoft’s Build conference, slated for March 30- April 2 in San Francisco, is now open for registration. The conference, costing $2195 for the three day event, sold out within minutes, even though this year Microsoft will not be handing out free hardware as they’ve done in the past.

(update: Build sold out this year in 1 minute, according to Steve Guggenheimer):

Last year we sold out in 20 minutes and in 1 minute this year. Sorry for everyone can’t attend in person. We stream on @ch9

A note in the waitlist section, which was shown via a glitch to those jumping on the registration just as it was announced, reveals that the tradition of giving away hardware will not continue:

In some previous years Microsoft has provided a hardware giveaway to support platform development priorities for Build attendees. This year, we will forgo hardware in favor of delivering a deeper technical experience for developers. In addition to great sessions from technical leaders and technology experts, you’ll discover Code Labs providing hands-on coding time with Microsoft experts, dialogue with speakers in our Expert Zone, or visit The Hub to see the latest in technology from Microsoft and select partners.

Even still, Build promises to be an exciting event, and Microsoft will presumably continue another longstanding tradition, to use the conference to announce important news about new products and features. We’ll be there to bring you all the latest news, of course. Microsoft also just announced the 2nd annual Edge Web Summit, to be held also in San Francisco on Monday the week after Build.

Are you going to Build? If so, be sure to say hi!
