Mozilla is testing a new visual design for Firefox. The changes show up across more than just the main interface. In a hands-on test of the latest Firefox Nightly version, rounded tabs, menus, and panels appear across the browser, along with updated layouts in Settings, onboarding screens, and other areas.
The change is not limited to one area. Tabs now use a pill-shaped design, and the new tab button follows the same style. The address bar and its suggestion panel also use rounded containers, so the search interface feels like a single surface instead of separate layers.

Menus and panels follow the same pattern. The main menu, extension panel, downloads panel, and bookmark editor all use rounded containers and buttons. Input fields and dropdowns use the same shape. The design stays consistent across different parts of the browser.

The redesign extends into Settings as well. Firefox groups sections into card-like blocks card-like blocks with more spacing, and controls like dropdowns and toggles follow the same rounded style. Settings pages often keep older layouts longer, but here they match the rest of the interface.

Other areas follow the same pattern. The onboarding screen uses a more open layout with larger visuals and rounded buttons. The About page uses the same spacing and layout. The design also carries into private browsing windows, where menus and the search interface match the rest of the browser.

The changes are still in development and are not enabled by default in Firefox Nightly. Testing took place on Firefox Nightly version 151.0a1. Mozilla is also testing other features in Firefox, including a hidden “Shake to Summarize” AI feature on Android.
The same design pattern appears across tabs, menus, settings pages, and panels, creating a consistent UI system. The changes are still in development and are limited to Firefox Nightly builds for now.
Firefox has gone through UI redesigns before, like Australis and Proton. Mozilla now refers to this work as the “Nova” design system in internal bug reports.
