Capcom has made its position clear on generative AI as the industry debates how far studios should go with the technology, especially after the recent NVIDIA DLSS 5 reveal pushed AI deeper into graphics workflows. The company will not allow AI-generated assets inside its games, but it will use the technology behind the scenes to speed up development and reduce workload across teams.
This approach places Capcom in a middle ground where it accepts AI as a tool for productivity while keeping final game content fully human-made, which matters as players and developers continue to question how AI affects creativity and authenticity in modern game design.
According to Game_Spark, which reported on Capcom’s investor briefing session, the company addressed direct questions from shareholders and clarified its stance in a published summary. Capcom stated, “Our company will not implement the materials generated by our AI into game content.” At the same time, it added that it will “actively utilize this technology to improve efficiency and productivity in the game development process.”
Where Capcom Draws the Line
Capcom’s policy blocks AI from generating anything that appears in the final game, including characters, environments, or story elements. This decision helps the company avoid issues seen in other projects, where developers faced backlash after AI-generated assets appeared in finished builds without clear disclosure.
At the same time, Capcom sees value in using AI during production. The company confirmed it is testing usage across departments such as graphics, sound, and programming to streamline workflows.
Capcom’s technical director Kazuki Abe previously explained that creating even small in-game objects requires “thousands to tens of thousands” of ideas, which takes significant time and effort. The company has experimented with AI to support this early idea generation process while keeping final outputs human-controlled.
This direction reflects a wider trend across the industry, where studios avoid AI-generated content but use the technology to reduce repetitive tasks and improve efficiency. With tools like NVIDIA DLSS 5 pushing AI further into gaming pipelines, Capcom’s approach shows how developers plan to balance innovation with creative control.
