Starfield is finally coming to PS5, and Bethesda has set the launch for April 7, with preorders already live for both digital and physical copies. After months of rumors about the sci-fi RPG going multiplatform, the company has now confirmed the move, while also tying the PS5 release to a major free update and a new DLC pack that aim to give players more reasons to jump in.
According to Bethesda, the PS5 version will make full use of the DualSense controller, with adaptive triggers that change depending on the weapon you use, while the light bar will reflect your character and ship health. The touchpad will also let players switch points of view and quickly access the map and hand scanner, which gives the PS5 release a few platform-specific touches.
Editions, price, and DLC
Bethesda will offer Starfield on PS5 in a standard edition for $50 and a premium edition for $70. The premium version includes the base game, the Shattered Space and Terran Armada expansions, a skin pack, virtual currency, and a digital artbook and soundtrack. Players who buy the base game first can later upgrade for $25, while Terran Armada will also be sold separately for $10.

The free April 7 update, called Free Lanes, brings a major space travel overhaul. Players will be able to fly freely between planets in a star system and use cruise mode, which lets them “chat with shipmates” or decorate their ship while traveling. Bethesda also says “points of interest will pop up” during these trips, along with new encounters, ship wreckages, deeper gear customization, more side quests, and a New Game+ option that keeps previously acquired gear.
Terran Armada adds a new questline focused on the Terrans, described as “an advanced militant force with their own vision for the Settled Systems.” The DLC also introduces replayable Incursions, fresh gear, ship parts, elite crew members, and a new robot companion. Starfield had a mixed start, but with these additions, the PS5 version looks set to arrive in much better shape.
