Microsoft has released a preview version of its Skype app for BlackBerry’s newest smartphone, the Q10. Microsoft has developed the Skype user interface to ‘make it look great’ on the new BlackBerry Q10 display.
“In this version, you’ll get all the Skype features that people have come to love – such as free video and voice calling, sending instant messages and text messages and calling to landlines and mobiles all over the world at Skype’s low rates,” Microsoft stated in an official blog post.
The app features the ability to add Skype contacts to your BlackBerry phonebook automatically. You can also initiate a chat directly via a contact in your phonebook! Skype notifications, such as incoming chat, contact invite request, etc, are also automatically visible in the BlackBerry Hub.
Microsoft is reminding users that the Skype app for BlackBerry Q10 is in Beta stage and experiences are not yet final. Microsoft believes users who try out the app on their BlackBerry Q10 will be “impressed” since the app already offers everything Skype users love.
A report over at TechCrunch states that this app isn’t all that its cracked up to be just yet, with constant lag, unresponsive taps, and chats that take forever to update. On top of that, notifications seem to ignore your device audio settings. Try the app out yourself to see if you have these issues. Again, the app is in Beta.
