Microsoft announced its new AI powered Bing on Tuesday, opened up a waitlist, and promised that they would bring “the new Bing” to “millions in the coming weeks.” They’re off to a good start so far as Yusuf Mehdi, a corporate Vice President at Microsoft and the presenter at the invite only presentation, announced on Twitter that over 1 million people have signed up for the preview in only 48 hours:

We're humbled and energized by the number of people who want to test-drive the new AI-powered Bing! In 48 hours, more than 1 million people have joined the waitlist for our preview. If you would like to join, go to https://t.co/4sjVvMSfJg! pic.twitter.com/9F690OWRDm

If you missed out, you can still sign up at bing.com/new.

The new Bing offers not only a traditional search offering, but an AI infused “Bing Chat,” that provides 1,000 characters of space to build complex queries, which Bing will then attempt to answer using a special search optimized version of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, thought to be based on the as yet unreleased ChatGPT4. By the way if you’re excited, like we were that seeing the new Bing home page meant you were in the preview, not so fast. It looks like Microsoft has turned on the new home page, but is still getting ready to add people from the waitlist, but it shouldn’t be long now.
